VOTED NO, TAKING CREDIT: HUIZENGA TOURS PALISADES AFTER OPPOSING LAW THAT HELPED FINANCE ITS RESTART

Ahead of Huizenga’s visit, McCann campaign calls out his vote against the law behind over 600 Michigan jobs from federal financing for Palisades

KALAMAZOO, MI — Ahead of Congressman Bill Huizenga’s tour of the Palisades Nuclear Plant, Sean McCann’s campaign is reminding Michigan families of the record Huizenga would rather leave out of the photo op: He voted against the law that created the financing program helping bring the plant back online.

Huizenga voted NO on the Inflation Reduction Act in August 2022. That law established the Energy Infrastructure Reinvestment program, which provided the loan guarantee of up to $1.52 billion to help finance Palisades’ restart.

According to the Department of Energy, the restart is projected to support or retain up to 600 Michigan jobs, with more than 1,000 additional jobs during scheduled refueling and maintenance periods. This investment represents a significant opportunity for workers, families, and communities across Southwest Michigan.

“Southwest Michigan deserves leaders who fight for good-paying jobs, not politicians who vote against investments and then rush to take credit for them,” said Sean McCann. “Bill Huizenga voted against the federal financing helping reopen Palisades. Now he’s showing up for the cameras to celebrate the very investment he opposed. You can’t vote no on Michigan jobs and then take a victory lap when those jobs come back.”

Huizenga cannot have it both ways. He voted against the legislation that helped make this investment possible, yet now wants to stand in front of the cameras and celebrate the economic benefits it is expected to deliver.

Before Huizenga poses for the cameras at Palisades, he should answer a simple question: Why did he vote against the law behind the federal financing he now wants to celebrate?
